Mint Julep - The Drink of Derby
According to the research of different historians, the Mint Julep would count as among the first of all cocktails; it dated back to the eastern antique periods. The Arabs and the Persian consumed a variety of medicine liquidates, to care for their dental needs, which they named “jelâb”, meaning all soft potion and pleasing composed from a calming syrup, diluted in the common waters of the syrup or in the distilled waters of inodores plants. The Latin named these medicines julepus or julapium. In Georgia in 1803, the manager of a bar decided to mix it with whiskey and sugar and then served it in a metallic cup. In 1809, a manager in Virginia improved the recipe while adding to a deeper understanding of whiskey. It refreshes equally as well and is then called the “Mint Julep”. Extremely refreshing, the Mint Julep quickly became the ultimate cocktail from border to border in the United States. In 1939, the “Mint Julep” even became the official drink of the Kentucky Derby. These days, more than 100 000 glasses are consumed each year during the preceding week. The “Mint Julep” is a drink of water, sugar, mint and of whiskey, served on crushed ice.
